Understanding Your Body Beyond the Scale

For many people, health and progress are measured only by the number on the scale. But weight alone tells us very little about what is actually happening inside the body.

Two people can weigh the same, yet have completely different body compositions, health profiles, and metabolic function.

Body composition looks at what your body is made up of — including muscle mass, body fat, and water balance — providing a far clearer picture of your overall health.

Coach Laur uses the Inbody Body Composition machines, using Impedance (frequency) for accuracy instead of more basic formulas. By understanding your body composition, we can make more informed, personalised decisions around nutrition, movement, and lifestyle.
 

What Is Body Composition?

Body composition refers to the proportion of different components that make up your body.

 

These include:

Muscle mass

Body fat

Visceral fat (fat around organs)

Body water

Bone mass

Rather than focusing only on weight, body composition helps us understand how your body is structured and functioning — giving far more meaningful insight when working toward fat loss, metabolic health, and strength.

Why the Scale Can Be Misleading

The scale reflects your total body weight, but it does not differentiate between muscle, fat, or water.

This means you could be losing weight while also losing muscle, rather than improving body composition.


Muscle plays a critical role in metabolic health, strength, energy levels, and long-term health. Losing muscle can slow your metabolism and make sustainable weight management more challenging.
